Build data compiled with thanks to the AC Owners' Club registers. Owner details are never published. Corrections welcome, please get in touch. Entries drawn from the April 2014 Aceca register were transcribed from a two-column document, and some history notes were affected; entries where this could not be resolved are marked unconfirmed.
Accepted production is 328 cars: 151 with AC's own Light Six, 169 with the Bristol engine and 8 with the Ford unit. This registry holds 334 records. The difference is deliberate, and it is worth setting out rather than quietly reconciling.
The registry records cars as the club registers record them, and a small number of entries are not ordinary production cars. AEC 56 is an Aceca prototype, later sold to Donald Campbell, who fitted a Bristol engine to it. Its chassis prefix does not appear in the standard AE, AEX, BE, BEX, RS and RSX scheme at all. A 83 carries a note in the source register stating that its chassis number is actually A 86, so it is a contested identity rather than an additional car.
That accounts for two of the six. The remaining four are ordinary looking entries sitting within the normal chassis ranges, and the archive has not established whether they are cars the club registers list beyond the accepted total, or entries recorded under the wrong variant. Rather than delete rows to make the arithmetic work, the archive leaves them visible and says plainly what it has not yet established.
So 328 is the accepted production figure and the one to quote. 334 is the number of records held here. They are different things, and anyone citing either should say which they mean.
